Employment Opportunities and Job Outlook for Astronomers

Information taken from The Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In the year 2008, astronomers held only about 1,500 jobs. This is a very small amount of people working in the field. Most of these astronomers were employed through the Department of Defense and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). They were employed to study the sky and space, no other special jobs. Even though astronomers work all over the country, many also work in universities or observatories.
While working, astronomers may experience fast job growth. This is because the job of an astronomer depends on budgets. In the last 3 years, job growth has been going up 16%.
